Mama Shop Project
The "Mama Shop Project" is a Final Year Degree Project done within the timeframe from late 2014 - mid 2015. The objective of this project is to create a socially interactive space for all in a form of a Concept Retail Pop-Up Store. The idea of a pop-up store would be to bring the Mama Shop to people and evoke emotions and trigger memories by bringing them down memory lane. The reason behind this is due to research findings, it shows that the number of Mama Shops are eroding and are hard to find these days in Singapore. This in hand with the celebration of SG50, allows the opportunity to showcase an iconic piece of Singapore's history which is on the verge of disappearing.
With this in mind, this project would be to allow the public to learn more for themselves about the knicks and knacks of the past and also allow the younger generations to experience more about something which they have experienced or never experienced before they never get to do so again. The pop up store will be scattered around Singapore from time to time within certain stipulated date ranges. The rationale why a pop up store would be the best form of choice is because Mama Shops are generally scattered around Singapore and it is also important to set it up at multiple areas to target different audience groups. Alongside the Pop-Up Store, there are other various limited edition outcomes supporting this initiative which ranges from Collectibles, Interactive Website and Social Media Interfaces, Collaterals such as Posters, Publications, Postcards, Sticker Packs and more.
This project was showcased at The Glasgow School of Art 2015 Degree Show from the 20th - 26th of June 2015 at the National Design Centre.
The Mama Shop Project Pop-Up Retail Store Installation has also been used in collaboration works between Print Labs Singapore and Unilever Singapore.
